What Does the Farm Bill Mean for You?

On December 20 President Trump signed the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (the 2018 Farm Bill) into law. This bill is very exciting for us, because it removed CBD and hemp from the Controlled Substances Act and will allow even more research into hemp and CBD and greater cultivation and farming of hemp. While hemp and hemp-derived CBD have been legal in all 50 states since earlier this year, the farm bill will support more farmers who choose to grow hemp. This is truly a win for all.

What does this mean for you? This means that you will have more options, access to better research, and can better understand the many uses of hemp and hemp-derived products, like CBD.

The Farm Bill also eliminates some of the legal gray-areas that were surrounding hemp and gives the consumer (you) the ability to purchase without fear of retaliation of the government. It gives stores and veterinarians the ability to carry CBD products without worrying that the DEA will change their mind and take their products away, even though they are legal. Essentially, the Farm Bill takes the DEA out of the equation when it comes to hemp and hemp-derived CBD, and it means that the FDA will be the agency to regulate CBD and hemp.

Hemp and hemp-derived CBD can change lives. While the fight is not over, this is a huge step in the right direction. I plan to continue to advocate for safe farming practices and I know all in the hemp community will fight to be sure that the FDA does not overstep. But for now, we can all celebrate this huge win in the battle for CBD.

Happy New Year!
