The 7-Day Gut Reset for Dogs: Digestive Balance & Microbiome Support

7 day gut reset dog detox protocol

This protocol is designed to help every dog detox and reset their digestion safely.

Before starting:

  • Collect samples before making changes.
  • Send a stool sample to AnimalBiome.
  • Send a hair sample to Parsley Pet.
  • Do not change food, fasting, or supplements until samples are collected.
  • Once samples are sent, begin the reset.

Day 1 Reducing Digestive Stress

Highly processed foods, treats, chews, and unnecessary supplements are removed.  Supplements that contain no unnecessary additives or fillers can be added back at end of reset.

In the morning, ideally before 9am, instead of their regular food, give them a half a cup of Goat or Cow Kefir.

Add two droppers full of mushrooms and adaptogens for dog digestion, (Lion’s Mane, Shiitake, Turkey Tail, Chaga, with Astragalus Root, Ashwagandha, and Rhodiola) and one dropper full of Milk Thistle Seed liquid Extract, 350mg [Hawaii Pharm].

If you feed twice a day you can give bone broth or Solutions jiggles instead of second meal.

Make sure they always have access to filtered, structured water with electrolytes throughout reset.

Give a full dropper of Full Spectrum Hemp Extract (FSHE) on gums to support gut inflammation, motility, immune signaling, and nervous system regulation. Look for a FSHE formula for dogs with a COA you can check for purity and potency, I like FSHE with turmeric and frankincense for inflammatory balance in the gut. This can be given in the AM or PM.

Days 2 – 4  Simple Nourishment

Feed before 9am, can sardines in water (Wild Planet), simple recipe, gently cooked.

Chop up 3 grams of functional mushrooms, and cook in sauce pan with grass fed ghee for at least 20 minutes and add to the food.

Add two dropper full of mushrooms and adaptogens for dog digestion, (Lion’s Mane, Shiitake, Turkey Tail, Chaga, with Astragalus Root, Ashwagandha, and Rhodiola), and dropper full of Milk Thistle Seed liquid Extract, 350mg.

Second meal before 6pm, give ½ a cup of bone broth or Jiggles from Solutions, with Licorice Root liquid extract, 350mg.

Full Dropper of FSHE with turmeric and frankincense, on gums in PM.

Day 5 Observation

Return to regular food, feed before 9am.

Add two dropper full of mushrooms and adaptogens for dog digestion, (Lion’s Mane, Shiitake, Turkey Tail, Chaga, with Astragalus Root, Ashwagandha, and Rhodiola), and dropper full of Milk Thistle Seed liquid Extract, 350mg, and Saccharomyces boulardii.

Continue replacing second meal with goat/cow milk, kefir or bone broth before 6pm, with Licorice Root liquid extract, 350mg.

Full Dropper of FSHE with turmeric and frankincense on gums in PM.

Day 6 Integration

Continue to feed regular food before 9am, adding the 1 dropper full of mushrooms and adaptogens for dog digestion, (Lion’s Mane, Shiitake, Turkey Tail, Chaga, with Astragalus Root, Ashwagandha, and Rhodiola), and Saccharomyces boulardii to food.

Continue replacing second meal with goat/cow milk, kefir or bone broth before 6pm.

Focus on hydration and gentle bile flow through food or whole extracts.

Full Dropper of FSHE with turmeric and frankincense on gums in PM.

Day 7 Assessment and Transition

Assess stool quality, gas, appetite, energy, skin, and behavior.

Prepare for the next phase based on test results.

Start fecal therapy using Legacy Biome (not Animal Biome, we use them for testing) and address any issues that came up on the Parsley Pet test.

After the 7 day reset, your dog’s test results will guide their personalized next steps.

Microbiome testing helps determine whether microbial support should continue, pause, or be avoided.

Hair mineral analysis helps determine whether detox pathways are stressed, whether mineral balance needs support, or whether additional steps such as parasite support or gentle heavy metal detox may be appropriate.

Those steps are never added automatically. They are introduced only when indicated and only when the dog is stable.

The FSHE can be continued indefinitely to add extra immune support. The mushrooms and adaptogens for dog digestion can be used once a week, just when needed, or in rotation with other mushroom extract and adaptogen blends for dogs.

How to Find High-Quality FSHE and Mushroom & Adaptogens for Dog Digestion

If you’re exploring natural options to support your dog’s digestion, microbiome, and gut health, and aren’t sure what products to try, you can start by searching for:

  • mushrooms and adaptogens for dog digestion
  • mushroom extract blend for dog digestion
  • full spectrum hemp extract with turmeric frankincense
  • fshe with turmeric frankincense for dogs

Whether your dog is dealing with ongoing digestive challenges or you’re simply looking to reset and rebalance after stress, antibiotics, diet changes, or environmental exposures, a short, intentional gut reset can be a powerful starting point.

By temporarily simplifying food, supporting hydration, calming the nervous system, and using thoughtfully sourced plant and fungi compounds, this 7-day reset creates space for the gut to stabilize and communicate more clearly. From there, testing and observation help guide next steps, allowing you to move forward with clarity instead of guesswork, supporting your dog’s digestion, resilience, and overall well-being in a more informed, personalized way.
