She of course has her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) but is also currently completing her master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine at Chi Institute.

In regard to research, Dr. Urban has a special interest in equine lymphedema, advances in rehab therapy, and herbal medicine for cancer. Although she is well-versed in traditional medicine, she also has a particular interest in healing the body naturally when possible.

CBD and Horses

She appeared on ‘A Dog’s Life’ podcast previously discussing whole foods for dogs. This time, she is on the podcast to discuss horses in further depth. Dr. Urban dived into the world of CBD for horses during the podcast.

As far as her professional opinion regarding the best method of administration, Dr. Urban stated “I like to provide the horse with CBD directly into their mouth, but there are quite a few rescue horses we are unable to get near, and in those cases we place the CBD into their feed.” In her professional experience, she has seen a change in behavioral and pain-related instances by the evening when taken orally. In general lameness cases, she has also seen significant differences following administration.

Anxiety is also known to affect horses negatively causing additional health problems. This is another area where CBD can help. She explained where she practices, in Pennsylvania, she has seen quite a few cases where a horse was neglected, abused, or simply has generalized anxiety problems where CBD could assist in correcting those types of behaviors. A horse who is fearful, for example, can be calmed with the use of CBD.

To dive deeper into the equine CBD world, the podcast is a must-listen. And, of course, if you have any questions you can reach out to Dr. Sarah Urban or myself regarding your horse’s specific needs.
