About LouisJohn Slagel
LouisJohn Slagel is a fifth-generation farmer and owner of Slagel Family Farms in central Illinois. Instead of modernizing all aspects of the farming operation, he has stayed focused on operating a smaller scale farm which focused more on quality rather than mass production. Every aspect of his farming operation is controlled, from breeding and genetics to growing the feed rations fed to the livestock. In addition to the farm, he owns Slagel Family Meats, a USDA inspected livestock slaughter plant and processing facility. The facility is used to harvest the livestock in a very safe and humane manner as well as prepare their meat products and raw pet food, Farm 2 Bowl. This is one of the few processing facilities in the USA to air chill poultry, which allows for a pure product, currently the only facility which air chills for dog and cat food. Beef products are also dry aged, which allows a process of natural fermentation for a more easily digestible and flavorful product.
