Physical Rehabilitation with Dr. Ava Frick
Dr. Ava Frick, a holistic veterinarian, is on a mission to write, speak, and teach about natural methods of healing. She has a long list of successes and it was an honor to welcome her onto ‘A Dog’s Life’ podcast. In the podcast, she explained her tips for finding holistic healing, the various methods of holistic healing, the services she offers, and how those services work.
She stated “this is where podcasts like yours are helping out because there are a lot of people who will look and know there has to be something more to help their pets, similar to the options for people, and they can find podcasts like this to explain other methods of healing. Then, there are other people who will receive an answer in the traditional world, and will go on without knowing the options because they didn’t know there were any other options.”
Accomplishments
In 2006, she was Hartz Mountain Veterinarian of the Year Runner-Up. The Hartz Mountain award honors veterinarians who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to their patients, families, and communities.
In 2007, her book, Fitness in Motion: Keeping Your Equine’s Zones at Peak Performance, was published with Lyons Press. She then began focusing on lecturing fellow veterinarians across the nation and developed a line of DVDs. In 2013, she was selected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Stress and published articles regarding the human-animal bond in two magazines: Combat Stress and Contentment. In addition to these accomplishments and many in between, in November 2015, she was selected to be inducted into the Animal Chiropractic Hall of Fame making her one of the first four selected to receive this honor.
Rehabilitation
Aside from nutrition, another one of her several specialties involves canine rehabilitation. In the podcast, Dr. Frick explained “those dogs that couldn’t walk at all and the people are the point of either euthanizing or spending $2,500+ for a surgery, are among those who are searching for canine rehabilitation. They are looking for options and they find me. And, then what we would do involves microcurrent and get them on different nutrients that can help heal the myelin of the nerve tracks. These people have been told their dogs would never walk again and my goal is to get them up and running again.”
Dr. Frick explained “my preferences are blending customized nutritional supplementation, herbal therapies, homeopathic preparations, and/or essential oils sourced from Ayurveda, Eastern, and Western Principles.” She continued “for bodywork, specific therapeutic modalities such as Alpha-Stim®, microcurrent therapy, laser, ultrasound, Q-gong, saunas, kinesiotape, splinting, and massage can be added to chiropractic to reduce pain and further improve comfort, function, and posture.”
