The CBD Industry

“The industry is a mess,” says Dr. Judy Morgan.

Since CBD is an unregulated industry, it makes it so hard for consumers to know what’s best and easy for manufacturers to make it complicated.

Dr. Judy Morgan’s first interaction with CBD in the pet industry was at an AFCO (Animal Care Review Board) meeting. No one in that meeting wanted to hear about CBD. Even when the Colorado Cannabis industry came along, they came so prepared with actual research, trials, and proof of CBD working for so many pets. But still, no one on the board wanted anything to do with the word “hemp”!

Unfortunately, it will be a long time until CBD is recognized by the board. This is a shame since there are so many benefits to using CBD in healing our pets.

“But, I still use CBD in my practice.” – Dr. Judy Morgan.

CBD In Dr. Judy Morgan’s Practice

Even though the industry is considered a mess, Dr. Judy Morgan still uses CBD in her practice for treating so many things in pets she sees every day.

The list can go on and on!

One story, in particular, Dr. Judy Morgan had two Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs who had neurological diseases including Syringomyelia (SM). These diseases are very painful for dogs and can even cause seizures!

For the longest time, the only way Dr. Judy Morgan could help their pain and seizures was Western medications. Thankfully, the CBD gave them the opportunity to get rid of almost all the medications the dogs were currently on. CBD was able to manage their constant pain and stop the seizures.

Finding High-Quality Products

You probably hear amazing stories every day like Dr. Judy Morgan’s and try CBD for yourself or your pet. Then, maybe it doesn’t work? Unfortunately, that’s because not all products are made equal.

Even when I was sourcing essential oils for my products at CBD Dog Health, it took SO LONG to find the highest quality, best product I can find. We all have to do our research (even us manufacturers) to make sure we’re getting the highest quality product for our pets.

Just like in the CBD industry!

Thankfully, there are ways to make sure you’re getting the best quality CBD you can find. Here are a few quick tips and tricks to make sure you’re choosing the best CBD for your pet:

  1. Make sure the product is Full Spectrum.
  2. The product is 500mg of CBD or more.
  3. There is a Certificate Of Analysis (COA) from a third-party lab. Learn how to read a COA >>
  4. Check customer reviews and success stories.

What About Diet?

“When people say it doesn’t work, they’re not looking at the whole picture.” Dr. Judy Morgan says.

Just like being able to find the right high-quality product, you also have to find the right diet.

Our health and our dog’s health begins in the gut. Even if you’re adding CBD and other natural supplements to their diet but still feeding a kibble diet (that’s probably causing the issues in the first place). How are things going to work?

If you feed a diet that’s not suitable for your pet, it causes an imbalance in their gut microbiome. And this is really important because their microbiome is the foundation of their immune health. In fact, 80% of your pet’s immune system comes from their gut health. So, when your pet’s gut becomes unwell it weakens natural defense systems.

Unfortunately, if you’re feeding a kibble diet, the ingredients may be the root cause of your pet’s issues.

The ingredients and starch used in kibble are the number one contributors to pets allergies, inflammation, and poor gut health.

When you feed a fresh raw or freeze-dried diet, that’s free of common allergens, the body will start to heal itself. The healing begins when the allergens are removed. This allows the gut inflammation cycle to be broken and nutrients to be absorbed again.

Final Thoughts

Even though the CBD industry is considered a mess, there are trusted brands and products that are creating high-quality CBD that is helping so many pets around the world.

And until CBD becomes regulated, we will continue to do our research as manufactures, vets, and even as pet parents to make sure our pets are healthy and happy.
